'Dog grooming with Distinction'

Phone/Text/WhatsApp: 07943 954433

I am City and Guilds qualified level 2 & 3 both with Distinction. I have been a Registered Veterinary Nurse since 2000, so you can be sure your dog will be in good hands whilst being groomed. I am also a member of the British Dog Grooming Association.
All breeds are welcome and I am a Spaniel and Gundog specialist.
I love my job as a Veterinary Nurse, but I also love dog grooming. Having moved to Thirsk in 2024 I found myself in a position to finally be able to think about starting a dog grooming business from home. Where I live in Breckenbrough, Thirsk, North Yorkshire is perfect to provide a calm and peaceful environment for the dogs I groom which is on a 1-2-1 basis.
My hobby is showing Cocker Spaniels, which requires me to have my dogs coats trimmed to perfection and in wonderful condition in order to win at the highest levels. I'm able to use this expertise when grooming your dogs to make them look their very best. My dogs have won multiple top awards at prestigious events including Crufts. My dogs have been awarded Best of Breed at Crufts 3 times and also 2nd overall in the Gundog group in 2018.
I have always loved animals and over the years I have owned dogs, cats, horses and goats.

Some exciting news to share at Hair of the Dog! As a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) and dog groomer, my number one priority has always been the health and happiness of your much loved canine companions. That's why I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I am officially introducing Emmipet ultrasonic teeth cleaning to my list of services!
This isn't just another grooming treatment; it's a huge step forward in non-invasive, effective oral hygiene for your dog, right here in the salon.
🐶 The Benefits You Need to Know
Dental health is just as crucial for dogs as it is for us, yet it’s often overlooked or owners are unable to carry it out themselves for varying reasons. Poor dental hygiene can lead to painful issues, not just in the mouth but potentially impacting the heart, kidneys, and liver.
That's where the Emmipet ultrasonic tooth cleaner comes in, offering a fantastic preventative and maintenance solution:
⚠️ A Crucial Note on Veterinary Care
As a professional Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), I want to be perfectly clear: The Emmipet is a tool for maintenance and prevention—it is NOT a replacement for a full veterinary dental procedure.
If your dog has significant dental disease (heavy tartar, infection, or loose teeth), they need treatment from a veterinarian. During your dog's initial assessment, if I determine they are not suitable for Emmipet treatment, I will professionally and immediately refer you back to your vet for the proper care. Your dog's health comes first!
Emmipet Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning: FAQs
1. What is Emmipet ultrasonic teeth cleaning?
The Emmipet is a cutting-edge device that uses 100% ultrasound (up to 96 million oscillations per minute) to clean your dog’s teeth. It is completely silent and vibration-free. The ultrasonic waves work with a special toothpaste to create micro-bubbles that penetrate the gums and tiny crevices, destroying bacteria and loosening plaque and tartar without any scrubbing or anaesthetic.
2. Is this a substitute for a Vet Scale and Polish?
Absolutely not. The Emmipet is a preventative and maintenance treatment, highly effective at managing plaque and mild to moderate tartar. It cannot treat existing dental disease. As a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN), I must stress that if your dog has severe periodontal disease, deep gum pockets, or loose teeth, they will still need a professional dental under general anaesthetic performed by a veterinarian. If during your dog's assessment I find that their mouth is too advanced for the Emmipet, I will immediately refer you back to your primary vet for appropriate treatment. Our goal is to work with your vet to keep your dog's mouth healthy.
3. How often should my dog have an Emmipet clean?
We recommend starting with the Initial Assessment & First Clean. Your pet may need some weekly sessions initially to remove the tartar (depending on compliance and amount of tartar). After this, a Maintenance Session every 4 to 6 weeks is generally sufficient to keep plaque at bay. Dogs prone to heavy build-up may benefit from more frequent sessions.
4. Is the Emmipet treatment painful or stressful for my dog?
Not at all! This is one of the biggest benefits. The treatment is silent and there is no mechanical vibration, heat, or scrubbing motion. The gentle contact of the toothbrush head on the teeth and gums is usually very well tolerated, even by nervous dogs.
5. Why do I have to pay for an individual toothbrush head?
Every dog must have their own individual Emmipet toothbrush head for hygiene purposes. This is included in the price of your first clean. We store the brush head securely at the salon, and sterilise it after every use. You only pay for a replacement when the bristles wear out (approx. every 15-20 uses or every 12 months).
